How does language shape how you see the world? Does thinking in a different linguistic system change the meaning of things? What meaning is hidden in different languages for us to learn from? How can different lived experiences open our understanding of the world?

Juana Riepenhausen, author of Tu amiga la escritura, teaches Spanish and writes in both English and Spanish. Her unique interest and understanding of the deeper layers in language has widened my perspective in the time we’ve been friends.

I always struggled to connect with languages at school, but thinking more deeply about what it can all mean feels unbelievably enriching. This taster session will look at what Spanish can teach us about the world and how apply a different lens to the English language can change its meaning. You don’t need any prior experience of Spanish or writing.
